Other clarifying information: A full year of upper division Anatomy and Physiology must be taken as a pre-pharmacy student. Pharm.D. students will no longer be allowed to take Anatomy and Physiology during the Pharm.D. program. Biochemistry will no longer be accepted in lieu of Physiology. ALL applicants must complete a full year of upper division Anatomy and Physiology at a four year school. Upper division Microbiology with lab must also be taken at a four year school.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The College of Pharmacy is one of 11 colleges at Oregon State University. Oregon State University is the land, sea, sun and space grant institution for the state. The college was established in 1898. Although based in Corvallis, the college also has a satellite campus at the Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, Oregon.

The University is located in the city of Corvallis, which lies in the Willamette Valley between the Cascade Mountains and the Pacific Coast Range. Corvallis is located 90 miles south of Portland, which is the largest city in the state. With its population of approximately 50,000, Corvallis offers an attractive setting and facilities for the University. To broaden the preparation for the professional activities and civic responsibilities, the students in the college are encouraged to join professional organizations.

The four-year professional curriculum includes courses in medicinal chemistry, professional practice and law, pharmacology, pharmacokinetics, biochemistry, therapeutics, drug literature evaluation, drug use policy, pharmaceutics, and pathophysiology. Students spend their first two years on the OSU campus at Corvallis, Oregon, and the third year at our satellite campus in Portland, Oregon. Before entering the third professional year, students must complete a bachelor’s degree in an area of interest to them.

In the fourth professional year, students complete supervised, off-campus clerkships in various pharmacy practice sites located throughout the state and region. Seven six-week clerkships must be completed. Students may choose clerkships that fit their specific career interests. We are looking for students with excellent written and oral communication skills, leadership ability, and a willingness to be a patient advocate. We want students with a solid foundation in the sciences coupled with a desire for a career as a health care professional.
